The Arts Council and the Long Beach Public Library Foundation are connecting to present a week of arts, culture and literature. The Arts Council’s Smithsonian Week and the Library Foundation’s presentation of Long Beach Reads One Book  will run concurrently and share the theme of Visions~Voices. Combining the knowledge of Smithsonian Institution scholars with the rich history of the local community, we will give witness to unique stories of our city and its residents through Oral History, Spoken Word, Visual Media, Performance and Literature. The week will kick-off with an evening with Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea, at the Carpenter Center on March 6, 2009, and will culminate with a Downtown event on March 14. The Arts Council is pleased to invite community partners to sponsor and host events during the week-long celebration.

Organizations interested in participating should submit the following form along with a statement about how your proposed event relates to the Smithsonian Week theme of Visions ~ Voices. Applications should be submitted by January 13, 2009. Organizations that are accepted will be contacted by the Arts Council to finalize details.
