Orange Peal Vibrations

Orange Peal Vibrations is a percussion duo formed in 2012 by free-lance percussionists Gabriel “Slam” Nobles and Joseph Mitchell. As educators and performers, Slam and Joseph recognized the value of developing a percussion centric ensemble that would not only entertain but enlighten. Through their combined years of experience OPV found audiences curious about the instruments played and mallets used, how sounds are produced, and how parts are are notated. After countless queries regarding the difference between the vibraphone, marimba, and xylophone Orange Peal Vibrations was born! The repertoire of the group ranges from jazz inspired improvisation, contemporary art music, and collaborations of original material. Orange Peal has performed throughout the southern California area at festivals and in recital. OPV has been featured in concert at Otis Art Institute Mardi Gras Festival (2015), Creative Artists of Long Beach Concert (2015), and in recital with the South Bay Center for the Arts at El Camino College (2014). Gabriel “Slam” Nobles studied at California State University, Long Beach receiving a Bachelor Degree in Music Education and at University of Southern California earning a Master of Music Education and was a student of free-lance percussionist Dale Anderson. Mr. Noble taught for the Long Beach Unified School District and retired in 2010. Slam is an active performer and his work ranges from symphonic orchestral work, studio, and jazz combo. He has performed with the Long Beach Symphony, Long Beach Municipal Band, and Southeast Symphony. Joseph Mitchell received the Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Northridge and Master of Arts from UCLA. His teachers included Mitchell Peters, Karin Ervin, and Joel Leach.
